Moreton Bay Fig - Ficus macrophyalla
These are among the most dramatic trees in the Gardens. Their massive spreading roots provide a playground for children who can imagine pixies fairies and goblins hiding amongst them.
The tree, Ficus macrophylla is a native of the rain forests of coastal northern NSW and Queensland. It has large glossy green leaves and a fleshy fruit that contains tiny white flowers. Planted in the Scoborio/Guilfoyle period, they are well over 100 years old.
