The Friends purpose is to maintain and develop the Warrnambool Botanic Gardens as an outstanding Guilfoyle Garden.

The Friends of the Botanic Gardens was formed in 1989. Since then, the Friends have restored the fountain, the gas lights, the sundial, the fernery and the cannon. Their 2015/16 project is bringing the structure and history of the well into the gardens.

The maintenance and enhancement of Guilfoyle's garden is their first priority. To this end they organise events in the gardens, encourage others to use the gardens and fundraiser for major improvements. They encourage greater public participation within the gardens.

The Friends major success was to instigate the employment of our curator, this is a most significant milestone for the future security of the gardens and now after eight years, the success of this employment can be seen. Our gardens are now more than a park, they are a renowned botanic garden.

The Friends groups within botanic gardens are a major asset never to be undervalued. They have passion and they have resources for funding not always obtainable by government bodies.

A history of the Friends has been compiled by our historian Marie Johnston, this is an ongoing project as years go by. Click here to view this report of the Friends from 1989 - 2006.

Membership is a very important asset in the endeavors of the Friends groups, not only for their personal involvement but in your show of support. This support is a major component in raising funds.
